Imre Égerházi Scholarship 2014 – 13 awardees to day

Debrecen – This year, Zsófia Kathy received the prize founded in 2005, in memory of the Debrecener painter, at the Dóczy High School.
Nine years ago, Balázs Hadházi, a sculptor preparing to obtain a doctorate in art in Pécs, received the first scholarship founded in memory of Imre Égerházi, a painter and art organizer from Debrecen who died in a tragic accident in 2001.
Since then, 13 have received (with a year of two awardees) the recognition created by the artist’s heirs, which is awarded each year to the student with the best fine art performance by a designated panel led by drawing teacher László Buka.
Zsófia Kathy (12th grader), awardee of 2014, received the recognition from Péter Égerházi on Tuesday. Two previous winners, Lilian Lekics (2008) and Tibor Papp (2011), also took part in the event, as an exhibition of their works was opened at Dóczy in the gallery.
Balázs Hadházi, who won the award for the second time in 2009, was the third exhibitor, but only photographs of his works could be present, but these were also be able to reveal his exceptional talent.
The favourite pastime of this year’s winner, who’s taking her graduation exam from drawing class next year, is of course drawing, in which she mostly fancies freedom, as she said after the award ceremony. She won first place in the county competition last year and is preparing for the University of Fine Arts, and adamant on being serious about painting.
