Sunset on the homestead

oil, board, 40×60 cm
1982

Imre Égerházi loved to paint the rural world of the Great Hungarian Plain and within it, Hortobágy. His entire oeuvre was accompanied throughout by homestead depictions. In addition to painting, he was very fond of photography, after working hours he often took a vehicle and photographed landscapes close to Debrecen, including homesteads, at sunset. By the 80s, his painting style had become lighter and more ethereal compared to the 70s, especially the period between 1970 and 1975. The prominent contour lines disappeared, the gloomy, bluish-brown colour scheme of the images shifted to lighter pastel colours. The pointilist-like processing of his painting had really developed by this time. In this painting we can see a homestead in Hajdúság in the sunset. Accordingly, red colours dominate the artwork.

The painting is the property of the Déri Museum in Debrecen, currently not on display.
