The definition was used by art teacher Mónika Néma to describe this year’s Égerházi Imre scholarship recipient at Dóczy High School, Nóra Melinda Hofgárt. The ceremonial presentation on September 11 was the 21st in a series of collaborations between the school and the heirs of the painter, who was born a hundred years ago, launched in 2005. Over the past two decades, including this year’s recipient, 23 students have received this award from us for their achievements in the visual arts during the previous school year. As in previous years, the award ceremony was held at the Dóczy Gallery, where the recipient’s best works were also exhibited.
Her art teacher’s praise revealed that her unique perspective is evident even in her depictions of the simplest, most everyday things. In addition, she has her own ideas for every assignment, which she is able to realize in a thoroughly thoughtful manner, with fine, meticulous workmanship in both graphic and painting techniques. Nóri, now in 12th grade, received awards at the National Secondary School Student Exhibition last school year and won a comic book drawing competition. The technical richness of her creations points to a diverse personality. Her two-in-one images are particularly exciting, but she also works well with collage and even writes poetry. In our conversation after the award ceremony, she said that she is currently most attracted to the world of animation, so she expects to pursue a higher education degree in this field, although she may change her mind in a year’s time. She is a true polymath…
