Angels making music

The painting was created in 1998.

Imre Égerházi was happy to take part in thematic competitions, so in 1998 he submitted several works to the “Music For Our Eyes” MATÁV Fine Arts Competition. One of these was Angels making music.

The task was to create a work that visualizes music, either in terms of communication or human relationships. Imre Égerházi chose the topic of human relations. From the beginning of the 90s he was a regular visitor of the international artists’ colony established in the area of Pannonhalma Abbey. The sacred music and the spaces these filled had a suggestive effect on his art. Several of his works have been written about musical angels or other themes that present church music. Thus, the thematic direction of the artwork for the competition was a given for him.

Among his works on faith, this painting is one of the most successful, and also of outstanding quality from the figural works of the 90s. Its color scheme is characterized by the dominating colors of blue and gray, typical of him by the late 1990s. The black contours have completely disappeared, his paintings dissolved into fine-raster, light-textured images.

The painting is the property of Attila Égerházi.
